June 15, 2009 SPRING 2009 TEAM MATCH FINALISTS What a day of competition and celebration it was for Join the Dance Canada and our 14 wonderful schools communities that participated this Spring term and especially for the 48 couples whose day it was to step out and shine on behalf of their various classrooms. They were magnificent one and all. Our young men were debonair and dashing in their various modes of dress and the young ladies were resplendent in their beautiful dresses and some in their uniquely adorned hijabs. But nothing compared to the quality of their dancing! We cannot thank our three volunteer judges enough for their long day and challenging job of selecting the eight semi-finalists to compete in the Team Match, as well as the tough decision to determine the Gold, Silver and Bronze Placements. Such was the level of competition which charged the atmosphere from the moment the participants from each school entered Lord Dufferin’s auditorium- it quickly transformed into a ballroom. We also thank Don Brooks, Chairperson for the Volunteer Services Committee of the Rotary Club of Toronto for their generous donation of this term’s Treat Bags for our competitors. Don and his lovely wife Susan who so kindly volunteered and supported at the event were impressed beyond words by the dancers and the outpouring of support by their communities that had the auditorium packed to capacity right to the end of the night Congratulations to every young lady and every young man who danced as we know they have never danced before. At the end of a very long and challenging day of competitions that called not only upon the dance prowess of the children, but also upon their enduring spirit, here was the natural initial disappointment for some on learning that they were not among the selected three schools to compete at the Grand Trophy. However, our young Champions maintained their dignity and extra-ordinary spirit of sportsmanship that made already beaming educators, parents, families and supporters even more proud. Congratulations also to Centennial P.S., Bala Jr. P.S. and Topcliff on their Silver Ribbon placements; and, to St. John Bosco of Dufferin Peel, and St. Paul Catholic Elementary on their Bronze Ribbon win. BRAVO TO ONE & ALL Ilsa Abraham
